Queensland Trip : Part 1

In May this year (2000), Maurice and I had a lovely holiday on the "Gold Coast" of Queensland, south of Brisbane.  We enjoyed a day shopping and sight-seeing at Marina Mirage, a very upmarket and sophisticated development.
Noosa, on the Sunshine Coast north of Brisbane, is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Queensland.  We caught a little ferryboat at Noosa Wharf (pictured) and had a lovely trip along the Noosa river, where there is plenty to see and do on the park-like shores - an ideal spot for families.  The surfing beach at Noosa Heads has great waves, a boardwalk with plenty of shady seats, and is handy to shops and restaurants.
A little further north, we stayed at this beautiful holiday park at Hervey Bay, which is the gateway to Fraser Island, the Heritage listed island made entirely of sand.  As well, the Bay is renowned for its Whale-watching cruises, and we went on one of these and were lucky enough to see dozens of whales cavorting in the water - mothers, babies and bulls - very close to the boat.
This photo, as well as the one above, show the lovely lake and water-course in the grounds of Fraser Lodge, where we stayed.  The bird-life was abundant and diverse- also very friendly!  We were lucky enough to be at Hervey Bay for the Seafood Festival, an annual event, and had an enjoyable day, sampling the delicious seafoods and looking at the boats and exhibits.
Inland on the cattle property where our daughter and family live,we enjoyed the beautiful garden of Narelle Simmons, an old friend and mother of Tracey's husband.  Narelle maintains this very extensive garden herself, with help from daughter, Melanie.  They have trees and flowers of every variety, and the brilliantly coloured shrubs which grow so well in sunny Queensland.
This is another view of the "Karinya" garden, and gives a better idea of the extensive and idyllic grounds of this country home.  Our daughter, Tracey, is pictured here also.
